About Chris
I want a grand Adventure in life, one where I can do much to help out as I take the time to learn who and what I am. This is how I fond myself most comfortable attaining those goals all in one process – BIKE RIDE!
M Y T I M E L I N E… of sorts:
I was born on October 6, 1975 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and blessed to have been adopted by wonderful parents. Since that time, I have successfully fit quite a few lifetimes into my brief span on this planet. My world travels began with the US Navy on an aircraft carrier stationed out of Japan, and continued as a University student, health club manager, night club promoter, real estate millionaire for a short while – 6 months=], chef, and as a lifeguard in Australia. While I accumulated many successes in these years, I found himself with two marriages that ended up far from the intimate connections I wished them to be, 100 lbs overweight at one time, extremely unhealthy, living the unfulfilled life of an lush with an on and off drug problem.
I decided to make changes during my second marriage which were focused on losing the extra weight (100 pounds!). I started by changing my diet and most importantly my ways of seeing the world, this would be the beginning of a long and wonderful journey of learning on which I still walk today. I started by taking soda out of my life and kept making changes until I came to a point where I was happy with what I saw in the mirror and the happy with the person seeing it.
It was a beginning, but I was still unsure about a good direction to take my new found walk, until I put a profile on a nanny website and found myself going to Hawaii!
My arrival there set me on an entirely different trajectory of living life, one that I did not know even existed! I looked for a guitar for my birthday (turning 30) and instead my truck broke down at a vegan community (GentleWorld) where I was told I could stay as long as I ate what they ate. I asked what exactly it was they ate and they responded, “nothing from an animal”.
I left three months later and am still very happy to be vegan today.
During this time I also acquired a deep love of farming and a profound respect for the planet. I learned to nourish myself without raping the land to do so and in so doing, I learned to live in harmony with the A’ina (earth) and the Kai (ocean). I studied Chinese medicine, Kung Fu, yoga, meditation, swimming, surfing and had a few near death experiences, though in retrospect, I would call them near “Life Experiences” as I cannot recall ever really feeling that I would die, more so — I was being pushed to live more fully. I remembered how to walk barefoot over great distances and terrains, becoming more fully present and in tune with myself, and everything around me. Learning to see life from an entirely different perspective brought about one of the greatest changes for me; a feeling of self confidence in simply being ME…. “That’s the beginning of everything.” I believe.
This is the core of what I have to share. That, and follow your dreams, no matter how silly to others, you live for yourself and that is the truth from Gandhi to Darth Vader, once you live for someone else, you lose your power to do anything in the world.
One day, when going through my things during a move, I found a pamphlet on the “Peace Pilgrim” in the bottom of the closet. This is when I came to realize what would suit me as a lifestyle and calling. If you do not know the story of the Peace Pilgrim, I entreat you to learn about this wonderful woman who touched the hearts of many.
I am now riding across the world on my life’s adventure, in dong so, I do it with the intention of promoting Peace and Environmental awareness, to help make the world a wee bit safer for children.
I want to learn the power of infinite patience, of surrender to the grand design, of peace in the heart and mind… I want to go to my death not wishing for this or that… I want to go in peace however it may find me, this ride, this Epic Journey is part of how I plan to make that happen.
Kindness to children, love for children, goodness to children — these are the only investments that never fail.—Henry David Thoreau
